The C4 Corvette ZR1 set the world on fire. It was a huge leap beyond any previous offering and carried a sticker price more than twice that of a base Corvette. But aside from a monster MSRP, this car delivered some serious performance including a 24-hour endurance run averaging over 175 mph – still impressive 36 years later.
This gorgeous 1990 model has been driven only 9,200 miles. Sold new at Mark Chevrolet in Wayne, MI, it had an original MSRP of $60,590 in 1990 which equates to $155k in today’s dollars. It has obviously seen very little drive time which is further reflected by its condition. The black paint looks terrific and is nicely contrasted by the one-year-only wheel combination with new Goodyear Eagle tires installed in 2018. This ZR1 was equipped with the optional C2L dual roof package so you get both a body colored panel and a transparent acrylic panel along with a storage bag.
The highlight of the ZR1 is its remarkable LT5 alloy engine. Designed in collaboration with Lotus and hand built by Mercury Marine, this 5.7L masterpiece was rated at 375 hp (a 50% increase over the base Corvette). The DOHC design with four valves per cylinder and a dual intake system represented many Corvette firsts. Note all 16 fuel injectors were rebuilt in 2026 along with a fuel system service to keep this ZR1 operating perfectly. The balance of the drivetrain consists of the smooth 6-speed ZF transmission and 3.45 Dana Super 44 limited slip rear end.
The gray leather interior is also in remarkable condition. All the standard ZR1 features are present including dual power seats, Delco Bose Gold Series stereo, electronic climate control, and selective ride control. Of course, there is also the valet key to switch engine power between “Normal” and “Full”. The air conditioning blows cold and all four speaker amplifiers work properly which is not always the case with these cars. Documentation includes a window sticker, build sheet, and many other items as shown in the gallery.
This Corvette is not only an amazing car but also has many attributes for good investment potential; landmark model, excellent condition, low miles, clean history, and all the performance benchmarks established by the ZR1. Further, it has been well detailed in preparation for NCRS or Bloomington Gold judging. It all adds up to a great package for any Corvette collector or car enthusiast looking for something special.
