I don’t know if there is a more enduring vehicle than the Volkswagen Beetle. With more than 21 million units built and a production spanning 65 years, it is an iconic design that everyone can recognize. This 1962 version is a desirable early model that has been well maintained by its last owner to keep it running as good as it looks.

This Type 1 has been repainted in its original code 380 Turquoise. The body does not show any signs of trauma, and while many vintage Beetles suffer from significant rust issues, this one remains solid after 64 years of service. As a pre-1967 model it has the sloped headlights with glass covers which add to the classic look. The chrome wheels give some sparkle and wear tires from 2026.

The original 1.2L 40hp engine was swapped out in favor of a 1.5L rated at 53hp – still a small number, but that’s a 33% power increase! This feeds a 4-speed manual transmission that works as it should and benefits from a new shifter installed in 2024. The brakes were fully serviced in 2025 which included a new master cylinder, wheel cylinders, drums, shoes, and hoses. Other recent service includes a tie rod replacement and alignment. In addition, the electrical system has been converted to 12V.

Like the exterior, the interior is in wonderful condition and really adds to car’s character. The white upholstery and two-tone door panels blend well with the black floor surfaces and body colored dash and door frames. Front seat belts are present too. The factory instrument cluster consists of just a speedometer and a fuel gauge (which was a new feature for 1962). The horn and wipers work properly, and an aftermarket Pioneer radio with Bluetooth resides in the glove box. Note the “heater” cables are not functional and the windshield washer is disconnected. Finally, the front storage compartment has new carpeting and a service manual is also included.

This is one of those cars that really makes people smile. Perhaps they owned one long ago and have fond memories, or maybe they just enjoy the sight of an old-school bug. Whatever the case, there aren’t many cars that compare to this quintessential Beetle.
