The 1955 Chevrolet is one of the most important and identifiable Chevrolet models, ushering in the small block Chevrolet V8 and starting the run of Tri-Five cars that remain so popular more than 70 years later. This Bel Air model puts it all on display with a host of updates including a 383ci stroker engine, overdrive transmission, 4-wheel disc brakes, and modern air conditioning.
Hailing from California, this 2-door hardtop was refurbished in the early 2000’s and has seen 15k miles since completion. The work started with any required body repairs followed by the attractive Glacier Blue metallic paint. This is nicely accented by the shiny Bel Air trim and chrome hood bird. Such a classic look! Lenses, bezels, emblems, and rubber seals were replaced as well. Recent updates include a “smoothie” one-piece front bumper and 15” Cragar S/S wheels with brand new tires (225 front, 235 rear).
An original V8 car, this Bel Air received a boost in the form of a 383 cubic inch small block. Features include an Edelbrock aluminum intake manifold, 4-barrel carburetor with electric choke, and MSD ignition. Cooling uses an aluminum radiator and electric fan, while the dual exhaust has long tube headers, Flowmaster mufflers, and cutout plates. The balance of the drivetrain was also upgraded with a 700R4 automatic overdrive transmission and a Ford 9” rear end. Additional improvements include tubular front control arms, power steering, and power 4-wheel disc brakes. Note the brake and steering systems were recently serviced and the battery has been moved to the trunk.
The interior was completely redone as well. The seats and door panels received two-tone gray upholstery while the carpet and dash were done in black. Note the hand pinstriping on the dashboard along with the polished ribs across the headliner that add a little extra flair. A full set of Dolphin gauges is present along with an in-dash tachometer. There is also a tilt steering column and a Kenwood stereo along with a set of Bel Air floor mats. Finally, a complete Vintage Air system was installed for heat / defrost / air conditioning.
This Bel Air will draw a crowd wherever it goes. It is a great combination of 1950’s style and modern upgrades. And who wouldn’t look good driving this one down the boulevard?
