While there are plenty of Model A hot rods in this world, this one still manages to stand out from the crowd. “Purple Haze” is a steel-bodied roadster with custom paint and graphics along with a folding soft top. It has a look that cannot be missed, but this is also a very capable car with a robust drivetrain. Read on to learn more.
Titled as a 1929 Ford, it features a steel body with fiberglass fenders riding on a boxed and modified frame. The blend of purple and white paint along with the wide whitewall tires gives people a lot to see and talk about. The white convertible soft top offers plenty of headroom and is easily raised or lowered at any time. A white parade boot is also included. Note this is a roadster so there are no side windows. Programmable accent lighting is present in the engine compartment and interior.
The engine is a street friendly Chevy 350ci topped by a polished Edelbrock intake manifold and 4-barrel carburetor with electric choke. Other dress-up items include a chrome alternator, air cleaner, and valve covers. The ceramic coated headers look great too. The engine feeds a TH400 automatic transmission and Ford 9” rear end – more than enough for such a Model A! There is also a Mustang II style front end with rack and pinion steering, while the rear suspension uses ladder bars with an adjustable Panhard bar. Brakes are front discs and rear drums.
The interior is just as noteworthy as the exterior. It features a purple-and-white striped bench seat and a white dashboard with custom pinstriping. Two lap belts are also provided along with a tilt steering column. The center instrument cluster is completely digital and fully functional. At the front of the seat base you will find the stereo head unit, speakers, LED lighting switch, and electric trunk lid control. The trunk compartment matches the interior and houses the battery and fuel tank.
We’ve had plenty of hot rods here, Model A and otherwise, but nothing that draws attention like this one. Still, it is a real car that is simple to drive with good mechanicals. It is a lot of fun and will put smiles on faces wherever it goes.
