This 1968 Plymouth Fury III hardtop sedan is about as practical a classic car as you might find.  It’s a great looking stacked headlight Mopar C-body with a reliable 318ci V8 engine, automatic transmission, and room for six along with a spacious trunk.  This one is a breath of fresh air from all the usual (and much more expensive) cars from the era and is mechanically sound with lots of recent work.  It even includes a copy of the original window sticker.

The Fury was available in I, II, and III variants which represented increasing levels of trim and features.  As shown on the window sticker, this III model commanded a price of $3,729.15 back in 1968 (about $35,000 in today’s money).  It was finished in Burgundy Metallic with a black vinyl top along with body belt and wheel lip moldings.  The body is in decent shape for an unrestored 58-year-old car but does have a few small dings and paint touch-ups.  The 14” wheels retain their original covers and wear Cooper 215/75 white stripe tires all around.  Note the original dealer sticker remains on the rear bumper and matches the window sticker – kind of neat!

Power comes from the original LA 318 cubic inch 2-barrel V8.  This is a well-regarded engine that remained in production through 1991.  The transmission is a Torqueflite A904 3-speed automatic followed by a 2.76 rear end for easy highway cruising.  You will also find power steering that makes the car easy for anyone to drive.  Recent maintenance includes a new water pump, ball joints, steering box, master cylinder, and a complete brake service.

The black interior has a classic Plymouth look.  The dual bench seats provide plenty of room while the hardtop design allows a large continuous space with the windows down.  The upholstery is in remarkable condition as are the door panels and headliner.  Factory options include fender mounted turn signals and a Music Master 2W AM radio with front/rear balance control, all of which functions properly.  There is also a 1960’s era GPS (compass).  The trunk compartment is very tidy and includes a proper spare tire and bumper jack.

These classic 4-door sedans really are a super deal.  You get the look and style of a desirable 1960’s car but with a more distinguished appearance and a back seat that people can actually use.  And while Road Runners, Chargers, and other coupes from the era are great cars, you can have this one for just a fraction of their cost.
