Take a close look at this Corvette.  This 1960 245hp 4-speed model has been through a well-documented frame-off restoration by Ken Carlson of Sun Country Corvettes in Arizona.  This very comprehensive project was completed in 2008 and subsequently achieved NCRS Top Flight status in 2009 followed by a $15k freshening in 2025.  It’s that kind of Corvette.

This is believed to be a 4-owner car, with the second owner storing it in a barn from the early 70’s until 2002.  It was still in nice shape when removed which made it a solid candidate for restoration.  This was truly a nut-and-bolt effort with a high level of detail including shim marks, shim tape, stencils, inspection marks, decals, etc.  Great effort was made towards retaining original or OEM parts with correct part numbers and date codes.  The entire process is presented in two well organized binders loaded with pictures and receipts.  The end result received an NCRS Top Flight award in June of 2009 (judging paperwork is included).

This Corvette has seen fewer than 100 miles since completion.  The restoration was true to the original colors, retaining the desirable red / white exterior and red interior along with a black soft top.  There is also a red hard top though that was not part of the restoration.  All chrome pieces were replated and really add to the car’s look, especially up front with the “tooth” grille.  The painted steel wheels have proper covers and wear BF Goodrich Silvertown bias ply tires.  Note how the whitewalls blend so nicely with the body’s side coves.

The engine is a CT-code 283ci 245hp dual quad unit.  Unlike so many multi-carb setups, this one has been professionally tuned and runs as good as it looks.  The engine block is a 3756519 piece with a casting date of 12-22-59.  It was restamped and shows the correct VIN derivative along with a 12-30-59 assembly date.  The Borg-Warner T-10 4-speed transmission shifts smoothly and feeds an AN-code 3.70 Positraction rear end with the proper 3743833 casting.

Looking inside reveals a brilliant red cockpit that really brings you back to 1960.  Like the rest of the car, everything has been redone and looks great, especially with the top down.  The design has just the right amount of brightwork along with distinguishing features like the curvaceous instrument panel, passenger grab bar and long armrests.  Options include a Wonder Bar radio, heater, sunshades, and courtesy lights.  The trunk compartment is complete with a jack and matching spare tire.

There is a lot to like about this Corvette.  It has seen a tremendous amount of work that has yielded a gorgeous car with great mechanicals.  Further, it combines a classic color combination with a fun-to-drive 2x4 283 engine and 4-speed transmission.  And of course there is the NCRS Top Flight award.  Whether you are a Corvette purist or just somebody who appreciates quality classic cars, this one is worth a look.
