The C4 Corvette ZR1 set the world on fire. It was a huge leap beyond any previous offering and was truly “King Of The Hill” with a sticker price more than twice that of a base Corvette. But aside from a monster MSRP, this car brought some serious performance to the C4 platform including an incredible 24-hour endurance run averaging over 175 mph – still impressive 35 years later. This one-owner 1990 model in one of the nicest examples you will find with its excellent condition, very low miles, and hard-to-find color combination.
This Corvette is a true collector’s piece with only 584 miles since new. Sold new in Canada, it is a one-owner vehicle that obviously saw very little drive time. The original MSRP soared past $60,000 in 1990 – equivalent to more than $150k in today’s dollars. The code 10U Arctic White finish was only seen on 125 ZR1’s that year. By comparison, there were more than 1,500 produced in red and 900 in black. This example was further equipped with dual roof panels along with the standard ZR1 design cues including wider bodywork, squared off taillights, 11” rear wheels, and ZR1 badging. It also retains its original Goodyear Eagle tires.
The highlight of the ZR1 is its remarkable LT5 alloy motor. Designed in collaboration with Lotus and hand built by Mercury Marine, this 5.7L masterpiece was rated at 375 hp (a 50% increase over the base Corvette). The DOHC design with four valves per cylinder and a dual intake system represented many Corvette firsts. Its outstanding performance has been well documented as has its longevity. The balance of the drivetrain consists of the smooth 6-speed ZF transmission and 3.45 Dana Super 44 limited slip rear end.
As mentioned, a white 1990 ZR1 is hard to find. And while most of them had black interiors, this one is finished in red leather that looks amazing. It’s a fantastic color combination that adds to the car’s rarity. As expected from such a low mile example, everything is in excellent condition. All the standard ZR1 features are present including dual power seats, Delco Bose Gold Series stereo, electronic air conditioning, and selective ride control. Of course, there is also the valet key to switch engine power between “Normal” and “Full”. All four speaker amplifiers have been rebuilt and work properly. The owner’s manual and ZR1 coffee table book are also included.
This is not only an outstanding and desirable Corvette, but it also has many attributes for good investment potential: condition, miles, history, options, and all the performance benchmarks established by the ZR1. It all adds up to a great package for any Corvette collector looking for something special.
