Here is a very rare 2009 Roush P-51B Mustang - one of only 51 built! Its 510hp will take your breath away and maybe your driver’s license too. With Roush upgrades to the drivetrain, suspension, exterior, interior, and more, the P51-B is not only a huge upgrade over a factory Mustang GT but also provides a tremendous driving experience.
This example is number 35 of 51 and shows Roush serial number 09-00318. It has 38k miles and a clean history spent mostly in Texas and North Carolina. Like its predecessor P-51A, the car looks fantastic with its Vapor paint and olive accents which are an homage to the military. There is also a Roush aerobody kit that includes a front fascia, grille, chin spoiler, hood scoop, quarter window louvers, and rear wing. These pieces were painted silver from Roush which differs from the Ford body color to further capture the spirit of the Mustang fighter plane. Other special parts include forged 18” black chrome wheels with Cooper Zeon RS3 tires from 2021.
A note on the red and yellow checkerboard badging throughout the car. This is a tribute to America’s 357th fighter group from WWII. This group’s three squadrons were the most victorious of any Mustang group during the war and produced more aces than any other fighter group. The Mustangs of the 357th all wore this same checkerboard pattern at the front of their engine cowling. Search “357th P51 Mustang” if you’d like to learn more about these planes and their heroic pilots.
The 4.6L engine in the P-51B received a slew of upgrades from Roush to deliver 510 hp and 510 ft-lb of torque. The most apparent change is an intercooled TVS supercharger sitting up top serviced by a dedicated serpentine belt. Internal upgrades include a forged steel crankshaft and H-beam connecting rods along with forged aluminum pistons. Fuel is delivered through an upgraded pump system feeding a special fuel rail with high flow injectors. You will also find a dual 60mm electronic throttle body, cold air induction package, and Roush calibrated ECM.
This all mates to the 5-speed transmission through an aluminum flywheel for lower rotating mass and an upgraded clutch to prevent slippage. A Roush short throw shifter is also present. An 8.8” limited slip rear end with 3.55 gears delivers power to the ground. The Stage 3 suspension includes front struts, rear shocks, pinion snubbers, front and rear springs, front and rear sway bars, and a wheel hop reduction kit. Brakes are also upgraded with 14” two-piece front rotors in 6-piston calipers.
The interior is very sharp starting with the black leather seats with gray suede inserts. You can’t miss the P-51 insignias on the seat backs along with the special shift knob and dash plaque. There is also carbon fiber trim on the dash and center console. Other Roush treatments include a special 4-piece pedal kit and sill plates. The dash offers white faced gauges along with a boost gauge in one of the vent pods. An aftermarket JVC head unit with Bluetooth capability has been installed while the original Shaker 500 unit is also included. You will also find Weathertech front floor mats and the optional Roush tool kit mounted on the trunk lid.
The Mustang GT is a great car, but the P-51B takes it to another level in terms of both appearance and performance; you may find it a challenge to obey the speed limit. This model also had a healthy sticker price of $66,560 – over $100,000 in today’s money. As you might imagine, with only 51 ever made these cars do not come up for sale very often. Don’t let this one slip by.
