Street rods come in many shapes and sizes. But we’ve never seen one quite like this 1936 Chevrolet. Starting life as an ordinary sedan, its top was completely removed to create this fantastic looking roadster with a long list of modifications. The body, frame, driveline, brakes, steering, suspension, and interior have all been highly customized and make this Chevy stand out wherever it goes.
The body remains all steel and retains its basic shape. While a factory 1936 convertible had a sloped rear and less interior space, this one is derived from a sedan which offers more volume inside along with the humpback style trunk. Custom touches abound! While it may have two rows of seating, this one is indeed a roadster with no windows and no top. The door hinges were moved to the rear. Both bumpers were removed and the mounts smoothed over. There are frenched in taillights are from a 1959 Cadillac. The list goes on and on! The car was then slammed to the ground with Billet Specialties wheels and low-profile tires tucked deep into the wheelwells.
The drivetrain uses a Chevrolet 5.0L V8 topped by a Holley 4-barrel carburetor. This is backed by a 4L60 automatic overdrive transmission followed by an S10 rear end. The custom front suspension has adjustable coilovers while the rear uses leaf springs with sliders and lowering blocks. Brakes are front disc / rear drum while the steering uses a new rack from Woodward. Note the car has a fairly stiff ride due to the low stance and narrow sidewall tires.
The full custom interior is professionally done and features high quality leather seat coverings front and rear along with matching door panels, rear arm rests, kick panels, and floor covering. The trunk is also finished to match. Instrumentation uses one speedometer along with a matching pod that contains gauges for fuel, volts, oil pressure, and water temperature. An analog clock is also present while a Pioneer head unit is concealed within the glove box. Other features include a tilt steering column, floor mounted shifter, and seat belts front and rear. Note this car does not have wipers or a heater / defroster. A car cover is included along with door props.
As you might expect, this ’36 is an absolute attention getter. It looks amazing with its long, low styling and custom features atop the original design elements. Not to mention the vibrant paint and upscale interior. It is available today for a small fraction of the build cost.
