Seller’s Comments

All vehicle trades considered, including classics and performance.  I can assist with financing and transport as needed.

This is a real-deal 1969 Chevelle SS396 featuring its original drivetrain.  It is a rust-free Texas car that includes working factory a/c (a somewhat rare feature for this car).  The factory colors of Dusk Blue over Parchment give it a gorgeous look.  And it is a great running and driving example of a very desirable Chevelle.

This SS was built in Kansas City in early June 1969.  The data tag shows code 51 paint (Dusk Blue) along with  code 791 trim (Parchment bucket seats).  Note the tag also has the “L” code seen on SS396 cars from this plant.  As mentioned, this car features its original drivetrain throughout which is especially important for 1969 provenance.  The JK-code engine (396ci 325hp) was built on May 22 and includes the matching partial VIN stamp by the oil filter; this was the location used for 1969 big blocks at the Kansas City plant.  The TH400 automatic transmission is the correct CC code (396ci 325hp) with a matching VIN and a build date of late April 1969.  And finally the 12-bolt rear end is the correct CW code (396ci 325hp with 3.31 gears) showing a build date of March 31, 1969.

All the metal on this car is free of any rust issues thanks to a southern upbringing.  The body was repainted its original color which looks so nice on the 1969 design, especially with the contrasting side stripe.  The unique double-domed SS hood is a nice design feature as well, and the tail panel has the correct blacked out cove and taillight bezels.  Also note the Magnum style SS wheels which are correct for this year.

The original 396ci 325hp engine has been rebuilt to factory specifications.  It does have a replacement carburetor though the original is included.  The TH400 transmission has also been rebuilt.  The dual exhaust and Flowmaster mufflers sound exactly like you’d expect from a big block Chevelle.  As a 1969 SS this car was equipped with power front disc brakes.  It also has power steering so the car is very easy for anyone to drive.

Parchment has to be my favorite interior color.  It far enough from white that you’re not afraid to sit in it, but still has a rich look that sets it apart from all the usual dark colors.  The black dash, carpeting, kick panels, and seat belts give a nice contrast.  Note the correct SS emblems on the door panels and dash.  The shoulder belts remain in place too.  A set of aftermarket gauges resides under the dash and an aftermarket radio has been installed.  The wipers, horn, lights, and parking brake all work properly.  And of course there is the cold factory air conditioning not normally seen in an SS396.

The SS396 remains one of the most popular of Chevelles.  Beyond the muscle car looks, it is a roomy vehicle with enjoyable performance.  This very nice example goes a step further with its original drivetrain, solid metal, attractive colors, and factory a/c.  It’s enough to make a Chevelle lover out of anyone.
