Seller’s Comments

Very rare, very beautiful. Both describe this award-winning 1956 Buick Super convertible, subject to a comprehensive restoration completed in 2013. There is a lot to talk about here.

Let's start with scarcity. This represents the rarest Buick automobile built in 1956. Of almost 600,000 produced that year, only 2,489 were Super Convertibles (model 56C). This low production, combined with the car's beautiful design, has made this a very desirable classic Buick (note the example sold by Barrett-Jackson for $220,000 in 2013).

Speaking of the design, this car is truly gorgeous. The Super delivered a sporty elegance, sharing the large 127" wheelbase with the Roadmaster (not to mention 4-VentiPort fenders). The lines are very graceful for a car this size, perhaps even more impressive when seen in person.

This Buick has been through an extensive frame-off, nut-and-bolt restoration (documentation included). The car spent its early years in Arizona and eventually found its way to western Colorado. That is where it was found in a field, solid and rust free but needing a complete restoration. Work commenced for several years with one major interruption until the entire project was completed in 2013.

The car was originally all red but received a new two-tone paint scheme. The colors combine beautifully with the natural division along the trim line. The white top and tires really accentuate the look, as does the shiny brightwork. The car also has many nice features including power steering, brakes, top, windows, and seat.

The car has its original 322ci Nailhead V8 which was rebuilt. The engine was fitted with an Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor with electric choke for improved performance, but still wears its unique original air cleaner. There is also some extra chrome for a little pizzazz. The Dynaflow transmission has been redone and works perfectly.

The interior is completely new. It is a fitting touch to the car, using an original two-tone pattern with high quality materials. In addition to everything readily seen, there is also Dynamat under the carpet, new rubber seals for the doors, and new window felts. A Sony stereo was installed in the glove box along with door speakers (extra door panel material remains to put things back to stock).

A tremendous effort was put into this car. The frame was sandblasted and powdercoated. Mechanicals were rebuilt. The interior was replaced. Top hydraulics were redone. The original spare was remounted with a tube. Decals were re-stenciled. Painting, plating, polishing, etc.; far more than can be listed here. But the result is fabulous, and couldn't have happened to a nicer model - the rare 1956 Super Convertible.
