Seller’s Comments

Here is a genuine 1969 Z/28 Camaro that is one of the most complete and enjoyable examples you might find. Of course, it represents one of the most popular Camaros of all time, but is also a great driving car that you can really have fun with.

This Z/28 was built at the Norwood, OH plant in February 1969 (02D) and wears the correct X33 code on its cowl tag. It was pulled from a barn in 1992 after spending a dozen years in hibernation after several years on the drag strip. It was fully restored in the following years. This included being media blasted to bare metal and replacement of one quarter panel and one section of floor. This was followed by a repaint in its original code 57 Fathom Green along with white racing stripes. Brakes and steering were also addressed, as was the suspension which now has urethane bushings throughout. Bolt-in subframe connectors were also installed to stiffen the body.

There are two engines available with this car. Presently installed is a performance built 350 using a 3970010 casting (note this is a correct casting for a 1969 Z/28 302, which shares the same 4" bore as the 350). The engine was bored 0.060" and received 11.25:1 pistons (note the factory 302 was 11:1). The camshaft is from Comp Cams with solid roller lifters. It has a fairly high lift, so there is also a hidden electric vacuum pump and canister to ensure consistent power brake operation at idle. The top end of the motor has Dart II cylinder heads and an Edelbrock Victor Junior intake manifold along with the correct Holley 780 cfm carburetor. Ignition uses a Mallory Unilite distributor and Accel coil. There are also ceramic coated headers with smog fittings and the correct air pump, along with a full chambered exhaust for a fantastic sound.

There is a second engine available which is a fully rebuilt 302 with zero miles on it. The last owner kept this motor on a stand in case he wanted to return things to stock. This is a CE block which also uses a 3970010 casting. It has the correct cylinder heads, valve covers, intake manifold, deep groove pulleys, and exhaust manifolds with smog fittings and air pump. It is complete less the carburetor, distributor cap, coil, and water pump pulley. This engine can be sold with the car for an additional $7,500. Installation is also available.

The driveline continues with the Muncie 4-speed transmission that was rebuilt in 2011. Note the transmission retains the factory backdrive linkage to the column, so you must be in reverse to remove the key (this linkage is usually missing). The 12-bolt BV rear end is original to the car. It was also rebuilt and retains the correct 4.10 gears.

The interior was redone in the original code 722 Medium Green custom with center console and woodgrain accents. I think it is a very sharp interior, especially for the era. Everything works properly. This includes not only the gauges, horn, heater, dash lights, and courtesy lights, but also little things like the clock, key buzzer, and low fuel indicator. Many such features are often overlooked or forgotten during restoration. Finally there is an aftermarket sound system with trunk mounted amplifier and subwoofer.

This is obviously a desirable car, as the first generation Z/28 will always sit near the top of the Camaro food chain. Still, you don't have to be afraid to drive this example. It has been on the Hot Rod Power Tour and to the Car Craft Nationals, and has not seen a trailer since being put back on the road. It all makes for a Z/28 you can thoroughly appreciate and enjoy.
