When it comes to street rods from the 1930’s you don’t see many Chevrolet coupes.  They are probably outnumbered 20:1 by the much more common Ford variety.  This 1935 Standard model keeps the Chevrolet flame burning brightly with its classic lines under dark blue paint.  And with a contemporary drivetrain, suspension, and brakes it performs far better than it did 90 years ago.  Throw in a custom interior complete with air conditioning and you’ve got a car you can enjoy driving as well.

Titled as a 1935 Chevrolet, this car is all steel except for the rear fenders and shows fewer than 4,000 miles since completion.  The frame has been modified for more strength and to accommodate the updated drivetrain and suspension.  The body has been repainted a dark blue that looks especially good in the sunlight and is nicely accented by the white pinstriping.  A top exterior highlight has to be the beautiful grille which was replated with an excellent finish.  Note too the shaved door handles and the custom bumper pieces from McMillan Rod & Custom.  The chrome 15” American Racing wheels are a great selection with the dark paint and wear BF Goodrich tires (195/60 front, 255/70 rear).

The original Stovebolt straight-six engine was cleared out in favor of a rebuilt 350ci V8.  This is a reliable street engine that uses a 3970010 casting with iron heads.  Equipment includes an HEI distributor, aluminum intake manifold, and Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor.  Cooling is provided by an aluminum radiator with an electric cooling fan, while a set of headers feeds the dual exhaust system.  The transmission is an equally reliable TH350 automatic.  Another big upgrade is the fully independent suspension which features adjustable coilovers at all four corners.  Steering is much improved with a power rack and pinion unit, and the brakes use discs in front.

The custom leather interior is as comfortable as it looks with supportive bucket seats that tilt forward to reveal a small storage area in back.  There are also matching door panels along with a very nice headliner that incorporates an overhead console housing the Bluetooth sound system and several control switches.  The dashboard has an aluminum instrument cluster with a speedometer, tachometer, other gauges.  A tilt steering column is also present as are power windows and remote door poppers.  The lights, turn signals, horn, wipers, and parking brake are all present and functional (which you don’t always get on hot rods).  There is also a complete Vintage Air system for heat and air conditioning.  Finally, the trunk is finished to match and operates with an electric actuator.

This is a pretty nice package.  It’s a somewhat rare body style with great cosmetics and completely updated mechanicals, all in an easy-to-drive package that includes an attractive interior with air conditioning.  Further, with a 1935 title and all required safety equipment, this Chevy represents a complete turn-key offering so its next owner can just hop in and enjoy.
