The Mopar B-Body is a favorite of collectors and enthusiasts alike, having launched some of the most desirable (and expensive) muscle cars of the 1960’s including the Charger and the Road Runner. While there were many offerings, in 1966 the Satellite represented this platform’s top-of-the-line model. And while this marquee represents a desirable classic all by itself, this example takes things quite a bit further with beautiful custom paint on a solid California body. It is also a real thrill ride with a supercharged and fuel injected 383ci engine along with a 4-speed manual transmission.
This Los Angeles built car left the factory in September 1965 finished in Pale Yellow. While that stodgy color might have allowed a street racer to lay low, there is no such discretion today. It has been completely refinished in a brilliant two-tone House Of Kolor pattern that cannot be missed. It lays well over the straight and solid body which is free of any rust problems. Note the dual hood scoops are functional, feeding fresh air to the engine bay. The car rides on attractive 17” Ridler wheels with 2020 Hankook Kinergy tires (225/55 front, 235/60 rear).
This Satellite was ordered with a G-code 383 4v engine (second only to the 426 Hemi in 1966). While that was a nice option rated at 325hp, it now has even more grunt thanks to a Paxton supercharger and a Holley Sniper fuel injection setup. This combination offers great road manners and drivability, but it also delivers plenty of power when you want it. The drivetrain continues with a freshly rebuilt A-833 4-speed manual transmission fed by a new clutch kit and linked to an 8-3/4” rear end. Other nice features include power steering and power front disc brakes with a proportioning valve. It is also equipped with subframe connectors and front / rear sway bars.
The interior offers dual front bucket seats surrounding a factory center console. The seat covers, door panels, carpet, and headliner are all in excellent condition. The dashboard retains a stock appearance with the exception of the Sniper touch screen display and two gauges for oil pressure and water temperature. The factory AM radio is just for looks, as a modern JVC unit with Bluetooth has been mounted in the glove box along with a master disconnect switch. All features work properly including the headlights, turn signals, backup lights, horn, wipers, washers, heater, defroster, and parking brake.
There is a lot to like with the Satellite. It represents a desirable Mopar B-Body, has fantastic looks, and delivers plenty of performance. Just picture yourself running through the gears as you chase down a Hemi…
