Here is a very well built 1965 Pro Touring style Chevelle Malibu. It combines loads of updates and modern parts with the gorgeous lines of a classic Chevelle. With nearly 500hp, air conditioning, and much more, the result is a fantastic muscle car that vastly outperforms the factory offerings of the day.

Completed in 2015, this project started with a 136-code Malibu V8 from the Kansas City plant. The body was completely stripped down and any rusty sheetmetal replaced. A few custom touches were added, most notably the shaved drip rails and smoothed firewall. There is also a cowl hood. The body was professionally painted in Chrysler Sunburst Orange which looks fantastic on the nice straight body. Bumpers, moldings, and the front grille were all replaced too, while the wheels were upgraded to 17" Center Line Vintage Competition Series.

The drivetrain also received serious upgrades, starting with a 454ci big block (+0.030") that was completely rebuilt using many performance parts. Highlights include a 0.540"/0.560" camshaft, aluminum heads, medium rise intake manifold, and Holley carburetor. This engine was dyno tested on 9-16-15 and produced a hefty 493 hp at 5500 rpm (dyno sheet included). The TH350 automatic transmission was rebuilt at the same time using a modified valve body to handle the engine's output. The 10-bolt rear uses 3.55 gears for a nice blend of acceleration and highway performance.

There were other upgrades beyond the driveline. The front suspension received tubular control arms and poly bushings, while KYB shocks were installed all around. Power front disc brakes were installed for improved stopping power. Power steering was also installed. The resulting car is very easy to drive. It also sounds very healthy with ceramic coated Hedman headers and a Flowmaster 3" exhaust.

The interior was completely redone, also with a few custom touches starting with the dashboard. It was altered to accept the Vintage Air controls and vents. This was a slick modification that looks right at home and also delivers full heat, air conditioning, and defrost operation. Also added were a tilt steering column, oil and temperature gauges, and a retro style stereo with and aux input and amplified subwoofer. The front seats were replaced with comfortable racing style buckets from Procar, while shoulder belts were added in back. Everything else was redone too; carpeting, door panels, headliner, package tray, etc. There is also a nice center console with storage and cupholders.

Of course there is more! New wiring harness, gas tank, weatherstripping, halo headlights, etc. but I think you get the idea. This Malibu wasn't just slapped together on a few weekends; it was a wide-ranging project that yielded a beautiful, drivable classic that does not disappoint.
